Tansy Tuttletin lives with her mother in the smallest house in the oldest part of the tiny town of Flowerfield. When Mr. Tuttletin died, all he left Tansy and her mother to remember him by was a silver sugar bowl. With the notorious burglar Nasty Ned Nettles escaping from the City Jail, Tansy worries that the sugar bowl will be next on his list.

On top of that, the yarn factory might close down and Mrs. Tuttletin could soon be out of work. As it is, Tansy and her mother have nothing but cabbage soup and noodles for dinner night after night. What will they do if Tansy.s mother loses her job? It all looks so hopeless.

But Tansy is no quitter. .There must be something I can do,. she declares, and sets off to find out what.
